How it works
Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "open an issue in the platform repo, label it bug, and assign it to me".
ForwardThis drafts the issue as per your instructions and asks you to approve it first, because GitHub issues cannot be deleted once opened.
Approve it, and the issue is opened with your labels and assignee. You receive a confirmation email containing a link to the new issue.

FAQs
- How do I create a GitHub issue from an email?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "open an issue in the platform repo, label it bug, and assign it to me". ForwardThis drafts the issue, waits for your approval, then opens it and replies with a link. The first time, you will need a free ForwardThis account with GitHub connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- Why does it ask for approval before opening the issue?
- Because GitHub issues cannot be deleted. Once an issue is opened, it and its number are permanent, and closing it is not the same as it never existing. ForwardThis will not make a change it cannot undo without asking you first.
- Can GitHub create issues from email on its own?
- No. GitHub has no email address that opens an issue; replying to a notification email adds a comment to an existing thread, but nothing creates a new one. ForwardThis fills that gap: forward the email, approve the draft, and the issue is opened.
- Can it set labels, an assignee and a milestone?
- Yes. Labels, one assignee and a milestone can all be set when the issue is opened, so 'file this as a bug and give it to Ben' is one instruction.
- Which repository does the issue go into?
- Whichever your instructions name, either as 'owner/repo' or just the repository's name.
- Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
- Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
