- How does the Google Drive email integration work?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a simple instruction saying which folder they belong in, like "file these under Clients/Acme". ForwardThis saves the attachments there, creating the folder if it's new, and replies to confirm with links. Gmail's own save-to-Drive button drops the file in My Drive; the folder, the filename and the expenses sheet are still yours to do. The first time, you'll need a free account with Google Drive connected, which takes about 30 seconds. That's the entire Google Drive email integration. - Can it save attachments to a folder that doesn't exist yet?
- Yes. If your instruction names a folder that isn't there, ForwardThis creates it, files the attachments inside, and tells you it did so in the confirmation.
- What kinds of files can it save from an email?
- Anything attached to the email: PDFs, images, spreadsheets, documents. They're read straight from the forwarded email, so there's nothing to download and re-upload.
- Can different emails go to different folders?
- Yes. The destination comes from your instructions, so this invoice can go to Accounts and the next email's photos to Marketing, same address, nothing to set up.
- What if it files something in the wrong folder?
- The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours, and it checks nobody else has touched the file before removing it. Or just reply and tell it where the file should have gone.
- Is this different from saving an attachment to Drive from Gmail?
- Yes. Gmail's Drive button saves the attachment you are looking at into My Drive, and you then find it, move it to the right folder and rename it yourself, one file at a time, on a computer. ForwardThis does the filing: forward the email with a simple instruction and every attachment lands in the folder from your instructions, created if it is new, renamed if you asked, and the same forward works from Outlook or a phone.
