FAQs
- How do I log emails in a Google Sheet?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "add a row to the Mileage 2026 sheet: date, client, miles, amount". ForwardThis adds the row and replies with a link. The first time, you will need a free ForwardThis account with Google Sheets connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- Which details go into the row?
- Whichever columns your instructions ask for. ForwardThis reads the values out of the email and puts one in each column.
- Can it read figures from inside an attachment?
- No. ForwardThis reads the email itself, not the contents of attached files. If the figure you need is in an attached PDF, put it in the message when you forward it.
- Can it add several rows at once?
- Yes. If the email lists several items, ForwardThis can add a row for each in one go, and the confirmation shows them all.
- What if the spreadsheet does not exist yet?
- ForwardThis can create it. Ask for a new spreadsheet in your instructions and the first rows go straight in.
- Can Gmail send emails to a spreadsheet automatically?
- No. Google has no built-in way to send an email into a Google Sheet; the workarounds involve scripts or add-ons that need setting up and maintaining. ForwardThis needs neither: forward the email, and the row appears.
- Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
- Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
