- How do I create a ServiceM8 job from an email?
- Forward the customer's email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "create a job for the boiler service at 14 Elm Road, booked Tuesday". The job appears on the board with the address and description filled in, and ForwardThis replies with a link to it. All you need is a free ForwardThis account with ServiceM8 connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- Does the customer's photo end up on the job?
- Yes. Photos, quote PDFs and signed forms come straight out of the forwarded email and into the job diary, so nothing gets downloaded onto your phone and uploaded again from the van.
- Can it add the customer as a client?
- Yes. Mention them in your instructions and they go on the job; if they are new, ForwardThis creates the client from the name in the email, with their email address and street address when it has them. A job with no client is fine too - plenty of quotes start that way.
- Does it book the job in as a quote or a work order?
- A Quote, unless the email says otherwise. Words like "booked" or "work order" land it as a Work Order, and a job can be moved to Completed or Unsuccessful later by forwarding another email. The booking time itself sits in the job description for whoever runs the diary - ForwardThis does not touch your schedule.
- Can it mark a job paid or invoice the customer?
- No, and it never will. Payments, invoicing and the ready-to-invoice flags are left alone: a forwarded email is not authority to say money moved. It will not send texts or emails to your customers from your ServiceM8 account either.
- What if the job comes out wrong?
- Press undo in the confirmation email - it works for 24 hours, and ServiceM8 sets the removed job aside rather than destroying it, so it is still recoverable inside ServiceM8. Or just forward a correction: the address, the status and the description can all be changed the same way.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
