Questions
- How do I send an email to ServiceM8?
- Forward the customer's email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what you need, like "create a quote job at 14 Prospect Road for the leaking boiler and attach her photo". ForwardThis creates the job with the address and the description, adds the client if they are new, puts the photo in the job diary, and replies with a link to the job. The first time, you'll need a free account with ServiceM8 connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire ServiceM8 email integration.
- Can it attach the customer's photos to the job?
- Yes, and that is half the reason to forward it. Photos, a quote PDF, a signed form: whatever came attached is read straight out of the email and put in the job diary, so there is nothing to download onto your phone and upload again. Notes work the same way, and every staff member who opens the job sees them.
- Does it add the customer as a client?
- Yes. Name them in your instruction and they are attached to the job, and if they are not on your books yet it creates them from the name, plus the email address and address when the email supplies them. ServiceM8 calls a client a Company whether it is a business or a householder. A job with no client at all is fine too, which is how most quotes start.
- Can it mark a job as paid or send the invoice?
- No, and it never will. It does not touch job payments, invoicing, or the ready-to-invoice and quote-sent flags: a forwarded email is not authority to say a job has been paid. It will not send a text or an email to your customer from your ServiceM8 account either. Staff records and security roles are out for the same reason.
- What if it creates the wrong job?
- The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours. ServiceM8 sets a removed record aside rather than destroying it, so even an undone job can still be recovered inside ServiceM8. You can also just reply and tell it the right address or status.
