How it works
Forward the receipt to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "log this as an expense for £64.20 under Office Supplies, dated 22 August".
ForwardThis shows you the expense first, with the amount, the date, the supplier and the category, and records it once you say yes. As per your instructions, ForwardThis can attach the receipt file to the expense, record a bill instead, or add a new supplier.
You receive a confirmation email containing what was recorded, plus an undo button if something doesn't look right.

FAQs
- How do I email a receipt into QuickBooks?
- Forward the receipt to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "log this as an expense for £64.20 under Office Supplies". ForwardThis shows you the expense first, records it once you say yes, and attaches the receipt straight from the email. The first time, you will need a free ForwardThis account with QuickBooks connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- Does anything land in my books without me seeing it first?
- No. QuickBooks has no draft state, so anything recorded is live in your accounts the moment it is created. Because of that, ForwardThis always shows you the document first, with the amount, the date, the supplier and the category, and nothing is recorded until you say yes.
- Can it read the amount off the receipt PDF?
- No. ForwardThis reads your email, not the inside of the attachment. Put the amount and the date in your message and they are used; the PDF itself is attached to the expense as the receipt.
- Can it pay the bill or send an invoice?
- No, and it never will. ForwardThis never moves money. It can record an expense, a bill, an invoice, an estimate or a credit memo, and that is where it stops: no payments, no refunds, no transfers, and nothing emailed to a customer.
- Doesn't QuickBooks have its own receipt forwarding address?
- It does. QuickBooks can give you a receipt capture address, and receipts you send there wait in a review queue for you to match and categorise. If that queue suits you, use it. ForwardThis records the categorised expense in one step from your instructions, shows it to you first, and attaches the receipt to the expense it belongs to.
- What if the expense is wrong after all?
- The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours, which deletes the expense from your books. You can also just reply with the right amount or category.
- Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
- Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
