- How do I create a Canny post from an email?
- Forward the customer's email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "post this as feedback under Feature requests". ForwardThis writes the post from the customer's own words, shows it to you first, and it goes up once you say yes. All you need is a free ForwardThis account with Canny connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- Whose name goes on the post?
- A person from your own Canny account. Canny files every post under someone, so your instructions carry the email address to file it as, and ForwardThis matches that against your Canny users. It never takes an identity out of the forwarded message.
- Will voters get emailed when a post goes up or a status changes?
- No. Canny offers to email every voter when a status moves or a comment lands, and ForwardThis switches that off every time. Nobody hears from your board because you forwarded an email.
- Can it move a request to Planned or reply on it?
- Yes. Forward another email to change a post's status - open, under review, planned, in progress, complete or closed - or to add a comment, which can be kept staff-only. It can also add or remove tags the board already has.
- Can it vote for a customer or merge duplicates?
- No. A vote in Canny is cast as a named person, and ForwardThis will not speak for anyone. Merging is out too, because Canny has no way to unmerge. And it only applies tags that already exist - a board's taxonomy is yours to extend, not ours.
- What if I approve a post and think better of it?
- Undo works for 24 hours and takes the post down again, as long as nobody has commented or voted on it in the meantime - if they have, ForwardThis leaves it up and tells you why. After that, the post is yours to manage in Canny.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
