How it works

  1. Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "add them to the Newsletter audience, tagged wholesale".

  2. The sender joins your Mailchimp audience as per your instructions. ForwardThis can add tags, update the details of someone already subscribed, or add a note to their profile. It never sends campaigns or mass email of any kind.

  3. You receive a confirmation email containing who was added and the tags applied, plus an undo button if something doesn't look right.

FAQs

How do I add a contact to Mailchimp from an email?
Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "add them to the Newsletter audience, tagged wholesale". ForwardThis subscribes the sender, applies the tags, and replies to confirm. The first time, you will need a free ForwardThis account with Mailchimp connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
Will it ever send anything to my list?
No, never. ForwardThis adds and updates contacts, tags them and reads your reports. It cannot send a campaign, a broadcast or an automation. The most it can do is leave a draft in your account, and Mailchimp sends that to nobody until you open it and press Send yourself.
What if I have more than one audience?
Include it in your instructions, like "add them to the Retail audience", and that is where they go. With a single audience there is nothing to say: ForwardThis uses it.
What if the person is already subscribed?
Mailchimp matches on the email address, so an existing member is updated rather than added twice. New tags go onto their existing profile and nothing else changes.
Can it take someone off the list too?
Yes. Forward their unsubscribe request and ask, and ForwardThis finds them by email address and sets them to unsubscribed. Removing someone is a bigger change than adding them, so it is shown to you for approval first.
Can Mailchimp add a contact from an email by itself?
No. Mailchimp adds contacts through signup forms, imports and manual entry; there is no address to forward an enquiry to. ForwardThis gives you exactly that: one forward, and the sender is on the list with the right tags.
What if I add the wrong person?
The confirmation email includes an undo for 24 hours, which removes them from the audience again.
Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
What happens to my email afterwards?
It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.

Forward an email. Sh*t gets done.
