- How do I save emails to Clio?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "save this to the Hartley matter, with a note". ForwardThis puts the email's text on the matter as a note and replies with a link. All you need is a free ForwardThis account with Clio connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- How does it find the right matter?
- By the matter's display number or its description, matched against your firm's own list in Clio. "00214-Hartley" and "the Hartley sale" both work, and if more than one matter fits, ForwardThis asks which one rather than guessing.
- Can it save the attachment into Clio too?
- No. Clio's document upload cannot be reached through this connection, so a file has to go into Clio from Clio itself. The email's own words are captured in full as the note, and ForwardThis can still find, rename, move, bin and restore the documents already on a matter.
- Can it set a task or log time from the same email?
- Yes. Ask for a task and it lands on the matter with a due date, a priority and an assignee from your firm. Ask for time and the hours go on with your description of the work. One email can do all three: the note, the task and the time entry.
- Will it touch billing or client money?
- Never. ForwardThis does not raise or edit bills, take payments, or go near a trust account, whatever an email asks. It will answer questions: ask what a client still owes and the reply carries Clio's own figures.
- What happens to confidential client emails?
- Your email is processed securely and used only to carry out your instructions. ForwardThis keeps it just long enough for you to press undo, then deletes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
- Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
- Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
