- How do I send an email to Clio?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "note this on 00412-Reeve and log 0.4 hours". It finds the matter by its display number or its description, does the work, and replies to confirm. The first time, you'll need a free account with Clio connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Clio email integration.
- Can it save an email attachment into a Clio matter?
- No, and it says so rather than pretending. Clio's document upload cannot be reached through this connection, so a new file has to go in from Clio itself. What it can do is put the email's own text on the matter as a note, so the content is captured, and then find, rename, move, bin or restore the documents already there, creating a folder if the one you name is new.
- Can it log time from an email?
- Yes. Say how long it took and which matter, and the hours go on with your note as the description. If you got the figure wrong, ask it to change the hours or the wording, or use the undo in the confirmation, which works for 24 hours. A time entry that has already gone onto a bill is refused rather than quietly edited.
- Will it touch client money?
- Never. It does not raise or edit a bill, take a payment, or go anywhere near a trust account, and no instruction can talk it into doing so. It will read: ask what a client still owes and it comes back with Clio's own outstanding balance figures.
- How is this different from Clio's own matter email address?
- Clio gives each matter its own address, and anything you send there is filed as correspondence on that matter - which is exactly the right tool when filing the email is all you want, and it stores the attachment, which ForwardThis cannot. ForwardThis uses one address for every matter and does the work the email creates as well: the note, the time entry, the task, the diary entry, and the same for your other apps.
