ForwardThis looks the section up by its title across your notebooks and makes the page there, with the email's text as the body and the title your instructions ask for. If two sections share a title it asks which one you meant, and with no section mentioned the page goes to your default section.
You receive a confirmation email with a link to the new page, plus an undo button if something doesn't look right. Undoing removes the page, and OneNote keeps deleted pages in the notebook's own Recycle Bin for 60 days.

- How do I send an email to OneNote?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "save this in my Client Notes section as a new page". ForwardThis makes the page there with the email's text in it and replies with a link to it. All you need is a free ForwardThis account with OneNote connected - it takes about 30 seconds.
- Which notebook and section does the page go in?
- Whichever section your instructions ask for. To save an email to OneNote, ForwardThis matches the section by title across every notebook the account can see, so there is no need to say which notebook it sits in. If two sections share a title it asks which one you meant, and with no section mentioned the page goes to your default section.
- Can it add to a page I already keep, instead of making a new one?
- Yes. You can email notes straight onto an existing OneNote page - "add this to the bottom of my Fairhaven snags page" - and the text is added at the end of it. ForwardThis finds the page by its title, and it checks with you before it writes, because OneNote has no way to take added text back out of a page afterwards.
- What if the section does not exist yet?
- ForwardThis can make it. Ask for a new section and it checks with you before creating one, because OneNote has no way to delete a section once it exists. If a section already carries that title it is reused rather than doubled up.
- Can it put the attachment on the page too?
- No. A page made this way carries the email's text, not its files, and ForwardThis reads what is written in the message rather than what is inside an attached document. When the file is the thing that matters, ask in the same instructions for it to be filed in OneDrive or SharePoint and keep the OneNote page for the notes.
- How is this different from OneNote's own me@onenote.com address?
- OneNote's address puts every email in the same place, usually Quick Notes, and leaves the sorting to you later. If one collection point is all you want, it is the simpler tool. ForwardThis reads the instructions on each email instead, so this one becomes a page in Client Notes, the next goes on the bottom of a page you already keep, and the reply tells you which.
- Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
- Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
