- How do I save an email to OneDrive?
- Forward it to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "save this under Suppliers/Calder Print". ForwardThis saves the attachment to the right folder, giving it a fresh name if OneDrive already has one like it, and replies with a link. The first time, you will need a free ForwardThis account with OneDrive connected. It takes about 30 seconds.
- How do I save email attachments to OneDrive?
- Forward the email and name the folder in your instructions. Every attachment you ask for is saved there, and the confirmation lists each file with its link.
- What if a file with the same name is already there?
- Nothing is overwritten. OneDrive gives the new file a fresh name automatically, and the confirmation shows the name it was given.
- Can I email files to OneDrive directly?
- No. OneDrive has no inbound email address, and neither does SharePoint. ForwardThis fills the gap: forward the email, and the attachment is filed where you asked.
- Can it save into a folder a colleague shared with me?
- Yes. Name the folder and the file lands on their drive, where the folder really lives, and ForwardThis creates a folder that is not there yet. Moving a file you already have into a shared folder is the one thing OneDrive refuses, because it cannot move a file onto someone else's drive, so ForwardThis offers a copy instead and says so.
- Is a SharePoint library the same thing?
- No. OneDrive here is your own drive, or a folder someone shared with you from theirs. A SharePoint document library is a separate connection with a page of its own. One more difference by account type: on a personal OneDrive a file it deleted can be put back from the confirmation email, while on a work or school account the recycle bin in OneDrive is the only way back.
- Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?
- Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.
- What happens to my email afterwards?
- It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
