How it works

   Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "add this to the Onboarding space in Confluence as a new page".

   The email's text becomes the body of a new page, under a title taken from the email or the one your instructions give it. ForwardThis can file the page under an existing parent page rather than at the top of the space, put labels on it, and attach the email's files to it.

   You receive a confirmation email with a link to the new page, plus an undo button if something doesn't look right.

How do I send an email to my wiki?

Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with some simple instructions, like "add this to the Onboarding space in Confluence as a new page". The page is written from the email and ForwardThis replies with a link to it. The first time, you will need a free ForwardThis account with your wiki connected - it takes about 30 seconds.

Which wikis does it work with?

Confluence, Guru, Coda and Notion. Each keeps pages its own way and the instructions follow suit: a Confluence page goes in a space and can sit under a parent page, a Guru card goes in a collection, a Coda page goes inside a doc, and a Notion page goes under a parent page. With only one Confluence space, ForwardThis uses it without asking.

Can it add to a page that already exists?

Yes, though each wiki allows a different amount. Confluence puts the email's text on the end of a page, at the start, or in place of the whole body. Notion appends it to the page. Guru replaces a card's title or body with what comes in. Coda can only add to the end, because it offers no way to read a page's existing text back, and that one addition cannot be undone, so the exact words are shown to you first.

Who can see the new page?

In Confluence, Coda and Notion the page inherits whatever the space, doc or parent page already allows, so something written into a private space stays private. Guru works the other way round: a new card stays private to whoever owns it unless the instructions ask for it to go to the team, which is the safer default for a knowledge base.

Can it attach the email's files, or build a page out of them?

It can attach, but not read. In Confluence the file goes on to the page as an attachment and the confirmation says what was attached; Guru, Coda and Notion have no way of taking a file this way. What ForwardThis reads is the email and the attachment's file name, never what is inside the file, so the page is written from the words in the message. Paste the text into the email you forward rather than attaching a PDF of it.

What if somebody edits the page at the same time?

Nothing gets overwritten. Confluence refuses an edit that lands on top of somebody else's save, so the page keeps their version and ForwardThis tells you it could not add to it. Undo works the same way: a page changed by a colleague after ForwardThis wrote to it is left alone rather than rolled back over them.

Does it work with Outlook and other email apps?

Yes. ForwardThis works with any email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and everything else. If it can forward an email, it works.

What happens to my email afterwards?

It gets deleted. ForwardThis holds your email briefly in case you press undo, then removes it completely. Nothing is stored long term.
