Why you need ForwardThis
Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.
Questions
- How do I send an email to Clockify?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying the hours, the project and when, like "log 3 hours to Meridian Studio against Out of hours for yesterday". It matches the project and task by name, records the entry with your note on it, and replies to confirm. Leave the date out and it uses today. The first time, you'll need a free account with Clockify connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Clockify email integration.
- Can it start or stop a timer?
- No. Every entry it logs is a finished one, with a start and an end. A timer started from an inbox and quietly left running overnight becomes a wrong number on somebody's bill, so the running timer is left out on purpose. Tell it how long the work took and it records exactly that.
- Can it fix an entry I got wrong?
- Yes. Name the project and the day and it can change the hours, the description or the billable flag on a recent entry. Clockify replaces the whole entry whenever anything on it changes, so ForwardThis reads the entry first and carries over everything you didn't mention, otherwise the project and your notes would silently disappear. Undo puts the original back for 24 hours.
- Can it set up a project or a task?
- Yes. It can create a project, optionally against a client found by name, billable unless you say otherwise, and add a task to a project so there's something to log against. It can also change the tags on an entry, though a tag that doesn't already exist in your workspace is refused rather than invented.
- What won't it touch in Clockify?
- Anything to do with money or sign-off. Rates and invoices are the money line and stay out. So do approvals and timesheet locking, which are somebody else's decision to make, and workspace membership, which is about who can see what. It logs time, fixes it, and reads it back to you.
