- How do I send an email to Harvest?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying the hours, the project and when, like "log 1.5 hours to Linden House against Client meetings for today". It matches the project and task by name, records the entry with your note on it, and replies to confirm. Leave the date out and it uses today. The first time, you'll need a free account with Harvest connected, which takes about 30 seconds, and that's the entire Harvest email integration.
- Can it log time to any project?
- Only the projects you are assigned to. Names are matched against your own assignments in Harvest, so an entry can never land on a client's project you have no business billing, however the instruction is phrased. Ask it to list your projects and it comes back with their tasks too.
- Can it fix an entry I got wrong?
- Yes. Name the project and the day and it can change the hours or the notes on a recent entry. If the entry has moved again since it touched it, it refuses rather than guessing, and undo puts the exact prior hours and notes back for 24 hours.
- What about timesheets that have already been approved?
- Approved entries are locked, and Harvest refuses to change them for anybody. ForwardThis checks before it tries and tells you in plain words that the entry is locked, rather than reporting a change that never happened.
- How is this different from Harvest's own timer, or Zapier?
- The timer is the right tool when you remember to start it. This is for the hours you find out about afterwards, in an email: the call that ran long, the client note that reminds you of Tuesday. Zapier can push entries in too, but you build a rule per project first, and it can't read "an hour and a half, brand review, Linden House" out of a sentence.
