ForwardThis vs Martin

Martin and ForwardThis both take plain instructions, and that is where the resemblance stops. Martin is a personal assistant you reach by phone call, text, WhatsApp, Slack or email, and its territory is your own day: the diary, the inbox, reminders, to-dos and notes, plus calling and texting other people on your behalf. ForwardThis is not an assistant and there is nobody to talk to. One email gets forwarded with the instructions written on it, and the work lands in a named business app: the record updated, the bill entered, the task raised. If the job is running your day, Martin. If the job is the admin behind an email, done in the systems where the business keeps its records, ForwardThis.

Which one fits how you work?

Choose Martin if

  • You want somebody to talk to. Martin answers a phone call, a text, a WhatsApp message and a Slack message. ForwardThis reads email and nothing else, so none of that is even on offer.

  • The load you want lifted is your own day: the diary, the reminders, the to-do list, the wake-up call, the notes from a conversation. That is Martin's entire job.

  • You want it to ring the restaurant. Martin will call and text other people on your behalf to book and arrange things, and it will take a CC on a thread and settle the scheduling from there.

  • What you need done is mostly calendar, email and memory rather than records in other systems. Martin covers exactly that ground, and the 145+ apps ForwardThis reaches would sit unused.

Choose ForwardThis if

  • The job ends inside a system of record: a bill entered in the accounts, a CRM field changed, a row corrected, a task raised on a board. Martin's published integrations do not reach those apps at all.

  • You want every job traceable to one email. Nothing happens that was not forwarded, and the confirmation names the record it changed rather than telling you it is handled.

  • You want a way back. Reversible work can be undone for 24 hours, and anything that puts words in front of another person waits for approval before it goes.

  • You would rather pay for jobs than for a person's assistant. The free plan is 10 actions a month with every feature, and paid starts at $15 a month for the whole account.

What a single forwarded email does

The trigger is the email you forward. There is no editor and nothing to design in advance. This whole job is one email.

FAQs

Is ForwardThis a Martin alternative?
Only for one half of what Martin does. Martin's published integrations are calendars, Gmail and Outlook mail, and Slack, so the assistant work it does is diary, inbox and memory. ForwardThis does none of that, and instead does the thing Martin cannot reach: the entry in the accounts package, the field on the CRM record, the row on the board. If the reason you wanted an assistant was that admin, ForwardThis is the closer fit. If it was your day, it is not.
Can I call or text ForwardThis the way I can Martin?
No. There is no phone number, no SMS, no WhatsApp and no chat window. Email is the only way in, and forwarding is the only way to start a job. Martin is built the other way round: reaching it by voice or text from wherever you are is much of the point, and it will call and text other people for you too.
Can ForwardThis manage my calendar and reminders?
It can put an event in the calendar or raise a task from an email you forward it, which covers the case where the email itself is the source of the commitment. It will not run your diary, chase your to-do list, wake you up or remember something you told it in passing. Those are Martin's, and a forwarded email is the wrong shape for them.
Does Martin work with a CRM or an accounting system?
Not today. The documented integrations are Google, Apple and Outlook calendars, Gmail and Outlook mail, and Slack, plus search across the web. Google Drive, ClickUp and Notion have been named as coming. ForwardThis is the opposite shape: no voice, no chat, no diary management, and 145+ business apps it can act in.
How does the pricing actually compare?
Martin is a subscription for a person: Basic is $35 a month, or $21 a month billed yearly, and Pro is $49 a month, or $30 a month billed yearly. There are 7 days free and no standing free tier. ForwardThis is priced per action for the whole account: 10 actions a month free with every feature, then $15 a month for 100. One forwarded email is one action however many apps it touches, so two people sending work in do not double the bill.
Can I use both?
Yes, and the split is clean, because they never want the same message. Martin runs the day: the diary, the reminders, the call to the supplier, the note from the conversation. ForwardThis takes the emails that create a record somewhere, and puts that record where it belongs with a confirmation and 24 hours of undo.
