Why you need ForwardThis

- How does the OneDrive email integration work?
- In OneDrive the attachments are saved to the folder from your instructions, created if it is new, and that folder can be one a colleague shared with you, in which case the file lands on their drive; a delete goes to your OneDrive recycle bin and never further. Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a simple instruction saying which folder they belong in, like "save these in Board/2026/Q3". ForwardThis takes the attachments out of the email, saves them, and replies to confirm with links. The first time, you'll need a free account with OneDrive connected, which takes about 30 seconds, and that's the entire OneDrive email integration. - Can I forward an email to OneDrive without saving the files locally first?
- Yes. The attachments are read from the forwarded message itself, so sending an email to OneDrive means one forward rather than a download, a browser tab and a drag into the right folder. Gmail has a button for saving an attachment to Google Drive and nothing for OneDrive. Nothing lands on your machine on the way.
- Can it save to a folder that doesn't exist yet?
- Yes. Name a folder that isn't there and ForwardThis creates it, saves the files inside, and says so in the confirmation. It can rename a file as it saves it, and move or copy files you already have, all from the same line.
- Can it share the file with a colleague once it's saved?
- Yes, and it checks with you before it does, because someone else gaining access is not something you can quietly take back. The person is named in your instruction: ForwardThis will never take an address out of the forwarded email and share with whoever is in the signature.
- What if it saves something to the wrong folder?
- The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours, and it checks nobody else has touched the file first. If you ask it to delete something, that goes to your OneDrive recycle bin, where you restore it yourself in the usual way.
