Why you need ForwardThis
Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.
Questions
- How do I send an email to Discord?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying which channel it belongs in, like "post this in #announcements". ForwardThis shows you the server, the channel and the message it's about to post, and once you say yes it posts it, attachments included, and replies to confirm. The first time, you'll need a free account with Discord connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Discord email integration.
- Can I forward an email straight to a Discord channel?
- Yes. Forward it to your ForwardThis address and name the channel - "post this in #general". One address works for every channel, across every server you've added ForwardThis to. If the same channel name exists in two of your servers it asks which one you meant, and you can say the server name in your line to save it asking.
- Can it post in a thread or reply to a particular message?
- Yes. It can reply to a message you point it at, post into a thread you name, or start a new thread and put the message there. You can also ask which channels it can post to if you're not sure of the name.
- Can ForwardThis send a Discord DM?
- No. It posts in channels and threads only, never direct messages, and it can't change roles, add or remove members, or create channels. Those are the things that go badly wrong at scale, and no amount of checking first would make a bot messaging people's inboxes acceptable.
- How is this different from a Discord webhook or Zapier?
- A webhook posts to one channel, and you set up another for every channel you want to reach. Zapier can do more, but you build a rule for each case first. ForwardThis uses one address and reads the line you write, so this email goes to #announcements and the next one replies to a message in #playtest. If all you want is every email from one sender landing in one channel forever, a webhook does that well and costs nothing to run.
