Microsoft Teams

Email to Microsoft Teams,
the easy way

ForwardThis is the simple tool that connects your email to Microsoft Teams. Forward any email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Nothing to download, nothing to set up. Works with dozens of your other apps too.

Get started

Setup in 30 seconds.

How it works

  1. Connect Microsoft Teams

Create a free account and connect Microsoft Teams. It takes about 30 seconds, and you only do it once.

  2. Forward an email

Forward any email to your ForwardThis address along with your instructions. One email can ask for several things at once.

  3. Done.

ForwardThis replies when it's done, with a short summary and links to what it made. Microsoft Teams has no way to take these back, so anything that cannot be reversed is shown to you first.

Just forward it

Why you need ForwardThis

ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.

Questions

How do I send an email to Microsoft Teams?
Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying where it belongs, like "post this in General in the Marketing team". It shows you the team, the channel and the exact message it's about to post, and once you say yes it posts it and replies to confirm. The first time, you'll need a free account with Microsoft Teams connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Microsoft Teams email integration.
Can I forward an email straight to a Teams channel?
Yes. Name the channel and the team in your line and that's where it goes. If the team doesn't have a channel by that name, or you didn't say which team, it comes back and asks with your real list rather than guessing. Nothing is ever posted without you saying yes first, because a message the team has read cannot be unsent.
Can it send a Teams chat or a direct message?
No. It posts in channels only. Direct messages and group chats are left out on purpose: they need a chat to be created before anything can be sent, which is a bigger decision than a forwarded email should be making.
Can it read a channel as well as post to it?
Yes, one named channel at a time. Ask what a channel has been saying, optionally about a particular word, and the recent messages come back to you by email as author, message and time. Teams has no way to search messages, so it filters the recent traffic of the channel you named, and the answer tells you which channel it looked in rather than pretending it searched everything.
How is this different from a channel's own email address?
Teams can give a channel its own address, and anything you send there lands in that one channel as a raw forwarded email. That is genuinely simpler if one channel is all you ever need. ForwardThis uses one address for every channel and every team, posts a clean message to whichever one you name, and can do the follow-up work in your other apps in the same email.
