Why you need ForwardThis
Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.
Questions
- How do I send an email to Fillout?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what you want from Fillout, like "send me the latest responses to the Workshop Application form". It finds the form by name and replies with the answers as question and answer pairs. It reads Fillout rather than writing to it. The first time, you'll need a free account with Fillout connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Fillout email integration.
- Can it add or delete a response?
- No, on purpose. Fillout would allow both, and both are left out anyway. Making up a response puts words in a respondent's mouth inside the only record you have of what people actually said, and deleting one destroys that record with nothing to restore it from. An emailed instruction should not be able to do either.
- Can it build or change a form?
- No. Building a form is a visual job, and doing it any other way means handing over the raw structure of the whole thing, question by question. Writing that out of a sentence in an email would be guesswork applied to a form people are filling in right now, so it isn't offered.
- How is this different from Fillout's own notifications, or Zapier?
- Fillout can email you each response as it arrives, which is better when you want every one of them, live. Zapier can route them somewhere else, but you build the rule first and it runs from then on. This is for asking afterwards, when someone forwards you a thread and the answer is sitting in a form you'd otherwise have to go and open.
