Why you need ForwardThis

Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.

Questions

How do I send an email to Linear?
Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what you want, like "create this in the ENG team as a bug". ForwardThis creates the issue, fills in the title and description from the email, and replies to confirm with a link and the new identifier. The first time, you'll need a free account with Linear connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Linear email integration.
Can I forward an email straight into a Linear issue?
Yes. Forward it to your ForwardThis address and name the team - "put this in ENG". If you only have one team it goes there without asking. In the same line you can set the priority, assign it to a named person, write the description, and name a parent issue to make it a sub-issue instead.
Can it update an issue I already have?
Yes. Name the issue by its identifier, like ENG-482, or by its exact title. From there it can move it to any state your team actually uses, like In Review, mark it done, reassign it, retitle it, rewrite the description, set a priority or a due date, add and remove labels, attach a file from the email, subscribe someone to it, or move it to another project, cycle or team. It can also create a project or write a Linear document.
What if it creates the issue in the wrong team?
The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours, which archives the issue the way you would in Linear yourself. You can also just reply - "move it to the DES team" - and it fixes its own work.
How is this different from a Linear intake address or Zapier?
An intake address gives one team one address, so every email that lands there becomes the same kind of issue in the same place. Zapier can do more, but you build a rule for each case first. ForwardThis uses one address for everything and reads the line you write, so this email becomes a high priority bug in ENG and the next one is a comment on ENG-311. If every email you get really does belong in one team as one kind of issue, the intake address is simpler and it's already there.
