How does the Todoist email integration work?

In Todoist the task lands in the project and section from your instructions with the due date read the way Todoist reads it, so "next Friday" or "the 15th" works as written, a priority from p1 to p4, and the email in the description so you can archive it. Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a simple instruction, like "add this to Property Admin, due next Friday". ForwardThis creates the task and replies to confirm with a link; name nothing and it goes to your Inbox. The first time, you'll need a free account with Todoist connected, which takes about 30 seconds, and that's the entire Todoist email integration. Can I choose which project the task goes in?

Yes. Name the project, and one of its sections if you want one, and the task lands there. Name nothing and it goes to your Inbox, the same as anything else you add in a hurry. You can also make it a subtask by naming the task it belongs under.

Can I set the due date in plain English?

Yes. Todoist reads dates the way you write them, so "next Friday", "tomorrow morning" or "the 15th" all work in your forwarded line, exactly as they would if you typed them into Todoist yourself.

Can it set a priority or a label?

Priority yes: p1 is the most urgent, down to p4. Labels work as long as they already exist in your Todoist. ForwardThis won't invent new ones from an email, so if you ask for one that isn't there it tells you.

How is this different from Todoist's own email-to-task address?

Todoist can give a project its own email address, and whatever you send becomes a task there with the subject as its name. Here one address covers every project, your instructions set the date in plain English, the section and a priority from p1 to p4, and the same email can create work in your other apps.

Does this replace the Todoist for Gmail add-on?

It does a different job. Todoist's Gmail add-on adds the email you have open to Todoist as a task with a link back to it, and you pick the project and the date in the panel. ForwardThis needs nothing installed in Gmail: forward the email with a simple instruction and the task lands in the project from your instructions, dated in plain English, from Gmail, Outlook or a phone.
