ForwardThis

Netlify

Email to Netlify,
the easy way

ForwardThis is the simple tool that connects your email to Netlify. Forward any email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Nothing to download, nothing to set up. Works with dozens of your other apps too.

Get started

Setup in 30 seconds.

How it works

  1. Connect Netlify

Create a free account and connect Netlify. It takes about 30 seconds, and you only do it once.

  2. Forward an email

Forward any email to your ForwardThis address along with your instructions. One email can ask for several things at once.

  3. Done.

ForwardThis replies when it's done, with a short summary and links to what it made. Netlify has no way to take these back, so anything that cannot be reversed is shown to you first.

Just forward it

Why you need ForwardThis

Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.

Questions

How do I send an email to Netlify?
Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what you need, like "why did the last harbourside-web build fail?". It reads the deploys and replies with the answer, and if you've asked for a fresh build it shows you the site and the branch first and runs it when you say yes. The first time, you'll need a free account with Netlify connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Netlify email integration.
Can it trigger a deploy from an email?
Yes, and it always asks first. The approval names the site and the branch, because a build publishes whatever is sitting on that branch at that moment, which is not always what you had in mind when the client emailed you about a typo.
Can it tell me why a build failed?
Yes. Ask about a site and it comes back with the recent deploys: what state each one is in, which branch it came from, how long it took, and the error where one failed. That's usually enough to know whether you're rebuilding or opening your editor.
Can it roll back to an earlier deploy?
No. Restoring an old deploy is publishing old code, and that's a call you make looking at what changed, not from your phone on a train. Environment variables, build settings, DNS and deleting a site are all out too, for the same reason: they're the sort of change you want to be sitting down for.
Is there an undo if it builds something I didn't want?
No, which is why it asks first. Once a build has published, visitors have seen the new site, and no button here can un-see that. Asking what's deployed and why a build failed changes nothing at all, so those just answer.
