- How do I send an email to Sentry?
- Forward the alert, or the customer email that describes the bug, to your ForwardThis address with a simple instruction, like "resolve the checkout TypeError in harbourside-web and note that the fix is out". It finds the issue, does it, and replies with a link. The first time, you'll need a free account with Sentry connected, which takes about 30 seconds. That's the entire Sentry email integration.
- Can it resolve or ignore an issue from an email?
- Yes. Say resolve, unresolve or ignore and name the issue, either by its short id like HARBOURSIDE-WEB-4F or in words from its title. It comes back with what the issue was, how many events it had and how many people it hit, so you can see what you just closed.
- Can it assign an issue to someone on the team?
- Yes. Name the person by their email address and it hands the issue to them, in the same instruction as anything else you want done, so "give it to ben@harbourside.co.uk and comment that it's Safari only" is one email.
- How does it know which Sentry project I mean?
- Say which, and if you can't remember what a project is called it will list the projects the connection can see. The organisation comes from your own Sentry account rather than from anything written in the forwarded alert, because an alert is just text somebody sent you and it should never get to pick which account gets changed.
- What if it resolves the wrong issue?
- The confirmation includes an undo that works for 24 hours, which puts the status or the assignee back exactly as it was, and comments it left are deleted. If the issue has been moved again by somebody else since, it stops and tells you instead of trampling the change.
