- How do I send an email to PostHog?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line asking for the number you need, like "how many signups in the last 30 days?". It runs the count against your PostHog project and replies with the answer. It reads PostHog only: it can count how many times an event happened and how many distinct people did it over a range, and list your projects. The first time, you'll need a free account with PostHog connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire PostHog email integration.
- What can it actually tell me?
- Two figures for any event you name: how many times it happened, and how many separate people it happened to. Say the range in your line and it uses that; say nothing and it looks at the last seven days. If you do not name an event either, it counts pageviews, because that is what people mean when they just ask how traffic is.
- Can it build an insight or a dashboard in PostHog?
- No, and it does not try to. This answers the question somebody has forwarded you, in a reply you can read on your phone. Anything that needs a chart, a breakdown or a funnel is a job for PostHog itself, where you can see the shape of it.
- Does it work with PostHog EU?
- Yes. You pick your region when you connect the account, and the questions go to the right instance from then on. Self-hosted works the same way: give it your own address at connect time and nothing else changes.
- How is this different from a PostHog subscription or Zapier?
- A scheduled subscription is better when you want the same numbers every Monday whether you asked or not. Zapier is better when a number needs to land somewhere else automatically. ForwardThis is for the question that arrives unplanned, in someone else's email, and wants an answer in the reply rather than in a dashboard.
