Why you need ForwardThis
Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.
Questions
- How do I send an email to Ghost?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what you want, like "draft this as a post called Autumn opening hours". The body of the email becomes the post and it is saved as a draft on your site, never published by that action. It can also list your posts, read one, edit a post's title or content, and publish a draft when you ask it to. The first time, you'll need a free account with Ghost connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Ghost email integration.
- Can I turn an email into a Ghost post?
- Yes, and that is the main thing people use it for. Give the post a title in your line, or let it keep the subject, and the message body becomes the content. It lands as a draft with a link back in the confirmation, so you tidy it in the Ghost editor before anyone sees it.
- Will it publish the post straight away?
- Only if you ask it to, and even then it checks with you first. Depending on how your site's newsletter is set up, publishing a post can send it to every member as an email, and that cannot be recalled. So drafting never publishes, and publishing waits for your yes with the post named in front of you.
- Can it edit a post that's already on the site?
- Yes. Name the post by its title and say what should change. If somebody else has edited that post since, Ghost itself refuses the change rather than quietly overwriting their work, and the same check protects the undo.
- How is this different from Ghost's own tools or Zapier?
- Ghost has no way to accept a post by email, so today you copy the text across yourself. Zapier can move posts around once you have built the rule, and it is the better choice when the same feed becomes a post every time. ForwardThis is for the piece that arrives in your inbox once, from a person, and needs to become a draft now.
