- How does the Monday.com email integration work?
- On Monday.com the email becomes an item on the board from your instructions, with the status taken from that board's own labels, the date and the person set in the same instruction, and attachments dropped into the board's files column. Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a simple instruction saying where it belongs, like "add this to the Projects board". ForwardThis creates the item and replies to confirm with a link; with one board it goes there without asking. The first time, you'll need a free account with Monday.com connected, which takes about 30 seconds, and that's the entire Monday.com email integration. - Can I forward an email straight onto a Monday.com board?
- Yes. Forward it to your ForwardThis address and name the board: "put this on Projects". If you only have one board it goes there without asking, and if the name could mean two boards it asks you which one. Attachments come along too, into the board's files column.
- Can it set the status, the date and the person when it creates the item?
- Yes, all three in the same instruction. Statuses use your board's own labels, so "mark it Waiting on client" works if that's what the column says. Dates need to be a real date rather than "next week", and the person needs to be someone on the board. It can also drop the item into a named group, or make it a subitem of a named item.
- What if the item lands on the wrong board?
- The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours. You can also just reply with where it should have gone.
- How is this different from Monday.com's own email integration?
- Monday.com gives each board its own hidden address, so you need a different address per board and the email arrives as an item with the raw message inside it, quoted Gmail thread and signature and all. ForwardThis uses one address for every board and reads your instructions, so it can set the status, the date and the person as it creates the item, and do the follow-up work too. If you only ever dump everything onto one board and sort it later, Monday.com's own address does that fine.
- Does this replace the Monday.com Gmail add-on?
- It does a different job. Monday.com's Gmail add-on opens a panel beside the email and lets you create an item, or add the email as an update to one you pick, by hand. ForwardThis needs nothing installed in Gmail: forward the email with a simple instruction and the item lands on the board from your instructions with the status, the date and the person set, from Gmail, Outlook or a phone.
