How it works
Connect PagerDuty
Create a free account and connect PagerDuty. It takes about 30 seconds, and you only do it once.
Forward an email
Forward any email to your ForwardThis address along with your instructions. One email can ask for several things at once.
Done.
ForwardThis replies when it's done, with a short summary and links to what it made. PagerDuty has no way to take these back, so anything that cannot be reversed is shown to you first.
Just forward it

Fwd: Card payments failing since 08:40
Acknowledge the card gateway incident and note that Rob is on it and the provider has been called.
---------- Forwarded message ----------
Payments have been erroring since about 08:40. I've raised it with the gateway provider and I'm watching it now.
Acknowledged #4471
Card gateway 5xx rate above threshold · high urgency
Noted on #4471
Rob Ellery is on it, gateway provider called
PagerDuty gives no way to take this back, so ForwardThis checks with you first.

Why you need ForwardThis
Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.
Questions
- How do I send an email to PagerDuty?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what you want, like "acknowledge the card gateway incident and note that Rob is on it". ForwardThis finds the incident, shows you which one it means, and only acts once you say yes, then replies to confirm. The first time, you'll need a free account with PagerDuty connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire PagerDuty email integration.
- Can ForwardThis raise a new PagerDuty incident from an email?
- No, and that's deliberate. Waking whoever is on call is a decision your escalation policy should own, not something a forwarded email can trigger. If that's what you need, PagerDuty's own email integration gives a service its own address that opens an incident on anything sent to it. ForwardThis works on the incidents you already have: acknowledging, resolving, adding notes, and telling you what's open and who's on call.
- Can I acknowledge or resolve an incident by email?
- Yes. Name it by its number, like #4471, or by words from its title. Acknowledging pauses the escalation; resolving closes it, and PagerDuty cannot reopen a resolved incident. That's why it always shows you the incident, its urgency and its current status and waits for your yes before either one.
- Can I ask what's happening without changing anything?
- Yes. Send "what's open in PagerDuty?" and you get the open incidents back in the reply, each with its urgency, service and who it's assigned to. "Who's on call?" answers from your schedules, and you can also ask for one incident in full or for the list of services. Nothing changes on a question, so nothing needs your approval.
- What if it picks the wrong incident?
- It tells you the incident number and title before it does anything, so you can stop it there. If more than one incident matches what you wrote, it asks you which rather than guessing. There is no undo in PagerDuty for an acknowledgement or a resolution, which is exactly why nothing goes through without you.
