- How do I send an email to Gusto?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with the question you want answered, like "who is off the week of the 14th?". The answer comes back as a reply, in the same thread, with the names and dates in it. The first time, you'll need a free account with Gusto connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Gusto email integration.
- Can it run payroll or change what someone is paid?
- No. It cannot run, amend or cancel a payroll, and it cannot touch salary, hourly rate, hours, bank details, tax details or a garnishment. Those are refused outright, not gated behind a confirmation, because money moving to real people on a schedule is not an inbox instruction. It will read a payroll run that has already happened and tell you the pay period, the cheque date and whether it processed.
- Will it tell me someone's pay, bank details or national insurance number?
- No. Pay and bank details are never returned, and a national insurance or social security number and a date of birth are refused in both directions: it will not read one out and it will not write one in. What you get is the ordinary directory: name, job title, department, work email, hire date and time off.
- Can it correct an employee's details?
- Yes, within a narrow line: their name, preferred name and email addresses, and nothing else. A payroll record is where somebody's payslip is sent, so it shows you the change and waits for your yes first, and the confirmation carries an undo that works for 24 hours. If a colleague edits the same record in the meantime, the undo stops rather than overwriting them.
- Can I ask who is off without opening Gusto?
- That is the most common thing people forward it. Ask and you get approved and pending time off for the next fortnight, or for whatever dates you name in the instruction, back in your inbox.
