How it works

  1. Connect Teamwork

Create a free account and connect Teamwork. It takes about 30 seconds, and you only do it once.

  2. Forward an email

Forward any email to your ForwardThis address along with your instructions. One email can ask for several things at once.

  3. Done.

ForwardThis replies when it's done, with a short summary and links to what it made - and an undo button if something doesn't look right.

Add a task in the Larkfield Annual Report project, due 4 September, and comment with what they've asked for.

Two changes on page 6 and the trustee list needs updating. If we can have it back by the 4th we'll still make the print slot.

Why you need ForwardThis

Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.

Questions

How do I send an email to Teamwork?
Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying where the task belongs, like "add a task in the Larkfield Annual Report project, due 4 September". ForwardThis creates the task, puts the email in the description, and replies to confirm with a link. The first time, you'll need a free account with Teamwork connected, which takes about 30 seconds - that's the entire Teamwork email integration.
Which task list does the task go into?
The one you name. Teamwork files every task into a task list and has no default one, so when the project you named has more than one list, ForwardThis asks which, offering the lists straight from Teamwork. Guessing would file the work somewhere nobody looks, so it doesn't.
Can it comment on a task instead of creating one?
Yes. Name the task and the comment goes on it, which is the usual way a client reply gets to the person doing the work. Teamwork notifies the task's followers as it normally would, and undo removes the comment again within 24 hours.
Can it delete a task?
No. Teamwork's trash is something you get in the app itself and not from outside it, so a task ForwardThis deleted would have no way back. It can complete a task, reopen one, and take back a task it created itself if you undo within 24 hours. Logging time is out too, because a timesheet entry becomes an invoice line and an email is not a timesheet.
How is this different from Teamwork's own email address for tasks?
Teamwork gives a task list its own address, and whatever you send there becomes a task with the subject as the title. That's enough when the list is already the right one. ForwardThis is one address for everything: it reads the line you wrote, puts the task in the project and list you named with a due date on it, comments on an existing task when that's what you asked for, and raises the follow-up work in your other apps at the same time.
