Why you need ForwardThis
Email is messy, every message asking for something different. It means constantly leaving your inbox and juggling tabs. ForwardThis skips all of that: forward an email along with some simple instructions, and it’s handled. Compatible with every email provider, and it works across the apps you’re already using.
Questions
- How do I send an email to TickTick?
- Forward the email to your ForwardThis address with a line saying what needs doing, like "add a task to Property to book the gas safety check, due 5 September". It writes the task from the email, puts it in the list you named with the date you gave it, and replies to confirm. The first time, you'll need a free account with TickTick connected, which takes about 30 seconds, and that's the entire TickTick email integration.
- Which list does the task go in?
- The one you name. Projects are matched by name, so "add this to Property" lands in Property. If you don't name a list it goes to your inbox, which is the right place for the ones you'll sort out later.
- Can it set a due date from what the email says?
- Yes. Write it the way you'd say it, like "due 5 September" or "by Friday", and the date is set on the task. Ask later and it can move the date, change the title, or mark the task done.
- What if it adds the wrong thing?
- The confirmation email includes an undo that works for 24 hours, on new tasks, completions and edits alike. Before it reverses anything it checks the task hasn't changed again since, so it won't quietly undo work you did in TickTick afterwards.
- How is this different from TickTick's own email-to-task address?
- TickTick's address takes the whole email and makes a task of it, subject as the title, in one fixed list, with no date on it. ForwardThis reads the line you write, so you pick the list, the wording and the date, and you can finish off an existing task in the same email. The same address also works for your other apps, so one forward can add the task and file the attachment.
